Mission Statement
To Promote independent living of Spokane's senior citizens and home bound through outreach in:
Nutrition, Advocacy, Education and Recreational services through the Meals On Wheels Program and the Mid-City Senior Center.

The Meals on Wheels program has been delivering hot, nutritious meals to elderly, disabled homebound in Spokane since 1967. The objective of Meals on Wheels is to provide the proper nutrition to those individuals who cannot meet the need on their own. This service allows individuals to remain in their own homes and reduce premature out of home placement. It also allows a patient to leave a hospital, nursing care or rehab earlier, thereby encouraging the convalescing process in the familiar surroundings of the persons own home. This service is available to people of all income levels, age groups, either on a temporary or permanent basis without regard to race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, handicap or political affiliation.

The Mid-City Senior Center continues providing "hot" lunch meals, 5 days a week, in cooperation with Spokane County Health District's Senior Nutrition Program. And, breakfasts are provided five days a week.

Mid-City Concerns is the "Center" of these senior's lives. When their apartments are poorly heated and they haven't enough money for food, they come in to get warm and to socialize with their peers in a safe wholesome environment. They receive assistance from a caring staff, trained to help them with problem solving and to make appropriate referrals for other needed services. We continue our advocacy program to further promote this cause for independence. Most important, they are treated with respect and kindness---and encouraged to treat each other in the same way.

Volunteers The delivery of meals is accomplished by a core of 700 volunteers provided mostly through area churches and businesses. These Volunteers not only volunteer their time, but also donate their vehicles and gas costs. This donation of labor, equipment, and supplies allows Mid-City to keep our overhead low. By the end of 2006, these volunteers will have delivered about 70,000 meals (including liquid food supplements, frozen meals, and hot lunches).
